Nosing around the centre of Kudat, the first capital of Sabah and nowadays a very laid-back local port town in the very north of the Land Below the Wind with (i) a peculiarly dreamy, end-of-the-world feeling, (ii) a very noticeable Filipino and Filipina influence (from hearsay: only MYR 50.- or US$ 15.- for a full service) and (iii) a lively open market full of handicrafts, clothes, sunglasses, fresh produce and traditional herbs and spices, thereafter checking out the beautiful and pristine Bak-bak beaches, a peaceful destination for a picnic, facing Marudu Bay, visiting a coconut plantation (where agile climbers, sometimes humans who use footholds carved into the growing tree and sometimes free-climbing trained monkeys, were harvesting the coveted coconuts) and eventually making it to the Tip of Borneo aka Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, Sabah’s northernmost headland, some 40 km from Kudat, thus experiencing the unbeatable thrill of standing at land’s end; woohoo, hurray and cheers!

Driving our reliable and powerful 4x4 Mazda Fighter TD Twin-Cab almost uneventfully all the way back to Tuaran, Christina’s & Liau’s birth place and located c. 30 km north of Kota Kinabalu, letting our hearts be our compasses, our minds our maps, our souls our guides and getting lost, a few times, on Borneo's unreliably signposted side roads; but if you don't get lost, there's a chance you may never be found!
