Adequate double room with air-con for MYR 50.- or US$ 14.20 per night.

Exploring Victoria aka Bandar Labuan, the mother of all duty-free shops and a busy mix of (i) Muslim Malays, (ii) native groups such as the Kadazan, the Dusun, the Bugis and the Bajau, and (iii) a large contingent of Hokkien Chinese, Indians and Western expats who altogether try to promote Labuan as an international conference and offshore financial centre.

Taking bas mini no. 6 (MYR 2.70 per person, one way) from Bandar Labuan to the scenic, palm-tree lined Pancur Hitam Beach on the northwest flank of the island and happily beachcombing along the shore of the squally South China Sea.

Taking the Kinabalu Express ferry (departure tax MYR 3.- per person, ferry ticket MYR 31.- or US 9.- per person) from Labuan, the pearl of the South China Sea, to Kota Kinabalu's Jesselton Point ferry terminal, thus entering the East-Malaysian state of Sabah aka the Land Below the Wind, because of its location just south of the typhoon-prone region around the Philippine,s and being picked up by our friends Christina & Liau who drove us to our hotel at 1Borneo Hypermall, c. 5 km north of Kota Kinabalu.
